General Information

Visitors

All visitors are required to sign in at the office during the instructional day (9:00-3:20). They will be issued a Visitor badge. We welcome visitors but must ensure the safety of our students.

Morning Arrival

Please do not send your child to school too early, as there will be no supervision.  Students are permitted to enter school at 8:30 a.m.  School begins at 9:00 a.m.

Attendance - Tardiness / Absence

Regular attendance is an important indicator of school success. We respect the importance of quality instructional time. Teachers will meet their classes promptly at 9:00 AM. Students should be on time and ready to learn. Promptness to class is extremely important. Students are to be in their seat and ready for instruction when the day begins. Interruptions due to tardiness take away from learning time, and are disruptive to the class. Tardy students are to report to the office as soon as they arrive at school. Consistent attendance is essential to our child's educational progress; therefore absences should be kept to a minimum. If your child must be absent or tardy for any reason, please contact the school office, at 769-1674. For your convenience, we have a voice mail system to take messages when the office is closed. When your child returns to school, please send a written note stating child's name, teacher's name, date of absence, reason for absence and your signature. We are required by the state to verify all absences. Please remember that much of what your child learns at school comes directly from one to one contact with the teacher. If you are going to be out of town, please contact the teacher several days in advance.

Report Cards

Report cards are issued every trimester and progress reports are issued mid trimester. They are designed to give you a written report on the educational progress of your child.

Conferences

Parent Teacher conferences are held at the end of the first trimester for all students. Spring conferences may be requested by either the teacher or parent. Please make every effort to attend them. Parents are encouraged to conference with the teacher at any time throughout the year. An appointment may be made by leaving a message for the teacher at the office or in writing.

Lost and Found

The lost and found is located in the back of the Multi-Purpose room. Please mark your child's sweaters, jackets, backpacks, lunch boxes etc. for easy identification. Small items are turned into the office. Parents are invited to check the lost and found. We are not responsible for personal toys, games or other personal items that should not be brought to school.

Bicycles/Scooters

Any student riding a bike or scooter to school must wear a helmet and supply a lock. Bikes must be stored in the fenced bike rack area. The school is not responsible for damage or theft.

Breakfast/Lunches

Breakfast in BUSD is free to all students.  The cafeteria doors will close at 8:55am, after the first line up bell rings.  Please ensure your child arrives early if they want to eat breakfast.  Hot lunches may be purchased daily. Students may pre-purchase lunches by the week or the month.  Menus are sent home monthly and can be found on the BUSD website.. Applications for free/reduced lunches are available from the front office and at the ESF in the nutrition services dept.  If you apply for free or reduced price lunches, applications must be submitted and approved each year.   Students bringing lunches from home may purchase milk from the cafeteria. If your child forgets his/her lunch, bring it to the office with your child's name and room number clearly marked. We will call the student up to retrieve it right before dismissal to lunch.  This will eliminate interrupting instructional time. Students who forget to pay for or bring a lunch will be provided with an alternative lunch.

Snacks

Each class has a snack period at the beginning of the morning recess (early afternoon for PM kindergarten). Snacks are eaten at the outdoor picnic tables in the shade. Younger students especially benefit from a nutritious snack. Please avoid soft drinks, sugary snacks, candy or other "junk food". Fruit, half a sandwich and crunchy vegetables are especially good energy boosters.
